LA REDEFINICION DEL SUJETO COMO PROYECTO DE LA POESIA SURREALISTA BRETONIANA
The surrealistic project of redefining the self conceives poetry as a resource to liberate individuals from the moral and rational limits that constrain self-expression. This paper reflects on André Breton’s surrealistic program and contends that even if he insistently pleads in favor of revaluating subjective experience, his final purpose transcends this initial goal and calls for a drastic social transformation. In this light, the paper studies the author’s poetic explorations tending to liberate the self. Four topics structure this analysis: irrationality as a person’s legitimate expression; the surrealistic adoption of an aesthetic of the emotion; its subsequent concretization through the mechanism of sublimation; and the convergence of all these in a poetic that opposes impositions that restrict the activity of the self
